2008年10月20日上午,来自美国伊利诺伊大学厄巴纳-香槟分校赵惠民教授在过程所生化楼201会议室为我们做了一场关于生物医药、生物能源和代谢工程的精彩报告。 赵惠民教授生物化工领域做出了卓有成效的工作,在Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Current Opinion in Microbiology, Nature Protocols, Chemistry & Biology, Nature Biotechnology 等知名国际期刊上发表SCI论文几十篇。赵教授主要研究方向集中于基因工程和代谢工程方法研究及其在生物医药,生物能源和生物基化学品方面的应用。 Industrial Biotechnology: Surfing the Third Wave of Biotechnology Huimin Zhao ABSTRACT Catalyzed by recent develop ments in bioenergy, industrial biotechnology, the use of enzymes and microorganisms to produce chemicals, biomaterials, and biofuels from renewable feedstocks, is on the verge of exponential growth. In this talk, I will discuss our recent work on the development and applications of new protein and metabolic engineering tools for industrial biotechnology. Specifically, I will discuss: (1) discovery, characterization, and engineering of an antimalarial drug FR900098, and (2) engineering of new biosynthetic pathways and whole cells for production of value-added chemicals including phloroglucinol and xylitol as well as biofuels such as ethanol and butanol. |
